Award-Winning Architectural Gem Hidden in Barichara, Colombia | STAY

STAY is a series of short, visual stories showcasing the properties that bring our journeys to life. Villas, lodges, tented camps, and boutique hotels that shape how our guests experience the world.

The feeling of being exactly where you’re meant to be. STAY.

Sun-washed cobblestones. Whitewashed walls. Views stretching over the Chicamocha Canyon.

Barichara holds onto its past, but it doesn’t feel staged. Real people still live here.

Walk the Camino Real to neighboring colonial towns. Ride the backroads as first light cuts across the dry forest. If you’re paying attention, this is one of the only places you’ll find the endemic Niceforo’s Wren, one of the most incredible songbirds on the planet.

Terrazul sits on the edge of where the town center ends, and the forest begins.

Close enough to walk to town in 5 minutes. Far enough to listen to nature’s soundtrack.

A Stay Through the Eyes of Our Team

I’ve stayed here a few times.

Once with my family. Once with the WhereNext Travel team during our 2025 content and scouting trip.

You wake up, and it’s quiet. No street noise. No traffic. Just birds and wind coming up from the forest.

Coffee. Breakfast on the terrace.

The pool becomes the center of the property, set just above the forest canopy.

The Rooms

There are 5 rooms total.

Small. Controlled. Consistent.

  • 2 Standard Rooms — Compact, clean, built for guests who spend their days outside

  • 2 Superior Rooms — More space, better light, stronger connection to the forest

  • 1 Suite — The best room. More privacy, more presence

Across all rooms:

Natural materials.
Large windows facing the forest.
No heavy AC—just airflow.
Nothing extra.

With five rooms, it works well for full buyouts or small groups.

Award Winning

Terrazul Barichara was awarded a special mention at the II Salón Regional de Arquitectura in the Patrimonio e Intervención en lo Construido category. It was also highlighted in the prestigious Anuario AXXIS as one of the most outstanding architecture and design projects in Colombia.
