DO - Salsa Flash Mob | Bogotá, Colombia

DO showcases journeys that unfold like a story, open doors to hidden worlds, and introduce guests to people, places, and ideas they wouldn’t find on their own.

DO: One-of-a-kind experiences we design for guests.

What Guests Experience

  • A live salsa flash mob performed by the world championship salsa club

  • A seamless shift from performance into a guided session with the same dancers

  • Access to a dance community that operates entirely outside the public-facing version of the city

  • Naturally integrated into full-day Bogotá itineraries without disrupting flow

The Experience

There’s no reason to think anything is about to happen.

A public square. People are moving through it without looking up.

Then the music comes in.

Low at first. Easy to ignore.

One couple steps out. Then another. Then more.

At first, it feels incidental.

Then it doesn’t.

You hear it before you fully register it, the rhythm landing through the soles of their shoes against the stone.

The level is too high.

Footwork sharp. Timing exact. No hesitation.

They take the space quickly.

People stop. A circle forms.

Then the street becomes your private salsa club.

This experience didn’t start with an idea.

It started with a person.

I sat down with Angelika to ask her where it actually came from.

Where did the design inspiration for this experience come from?

“It comes directly from my life here. The club we work with is my club. These are the people I learned to dance with when I first arrived in Colombia.”

Why did you come to Colombia in the first place?

“I left Germany in 2010 planning to travel for a few months. Improve my Spanish. Learn salsa.”

And you stayed?

“I didn’t leave. I built a life here. I have an incredible family here now and live in the Coffee Region.”

How did your journey to Colombia begin?

“I started in Ecuador. Then took a 30-hour bus to Bogotá. I was working in tourism, traveling, moving through the country.”

And the dance school?

“Shortly after arriving in Colombia, I found them. Or maybe I stayed long enough that it found me. Salsa quickly became a central part of my life.”

How deep did it go?

“I started with classes. Then training. Then competing with the same club you see here.”

What level are we actually looking at?

“This is a world championship salsa club. This is how they train. What you see out there, that’s normal for them.”

How does that become an experience for our guests?

“We’re not creating anything artificial. We’re placing guests inside something real, with just enough orchestration behind the scenes so the spontaneity still feels intact.”

What does it feel like to turn something so personal into an experience for guests?

“It’s special. This was a big part of my life when I first arrived here, and now it’s something I can share. Seeing guests step into it, especially when they don’t expect it, that’s always a great moment.”

“It’s also become one of our most requested experiences for private groups and MICE. It works because it breaks the barrier quickly. People go from watching to participating together within minutes.”

What makes this possible?

“My network. My history here. And a real connection to Colombia. Without that, this doesn’t happen.”

Could someone find this on their own?

“No.”

Who This Is For

  • This works best for people who don’t need an explanation before something happens.

  • Groups that are comfortable stepping into a moment without knowing exactly where it’s going.

  • Private travelers who are more interested in being inside something real than watching it from the outside.

  • It’s particularly effective with small high-end groups and MICE programs.
